questions and the Answers will open below.
Who will meet us at the airport?
You will be met by airport baggage handlers who will be sure all your luggage gets through and they will bring you to one of our representatives who will then take you to the lodge.
What forms of payment are accepted at the lodge?
At this time we only accept cash, we accept cash or check for all your deposits and pre-hunt charges.
What is normal for all tips?
The field assistants will be tipped at the end of your hunt and that is normally $30 to $35 dollars per day per hunter. House staff and other field staff are tipped at your discretion, normally the total tip for the group is given to Betsy or Javier and they will distribute among all the staff. We can offer guidance on this at the lodge.
Can I bring my own gun?
Absolutely, there are some forms required in the United States prior to departure and to have the gun entered into Argentina. We will assist you with all the paperwork for Argentina. In the US, you will need to complete a US Customs form 4457 at an international airport or local customs office. If you plan to do this on departure day plan to arrive at the airport at least four (4) hours prior to departure. This is the same form that you may want to list the information for any other high ticket items you are traveling with - cameras, binoculars, notebooks and IPads, etc. This is proof that you did not purchase these items while your were out of the country. This form is a one time requirement and is good for as long as you own your gun. We suggest you bring two (2) firearms. While we have lodge guns for rent, if your gun becomes inoperable, you will be limited to the inventory that remains after those that requested rentals have been provisioned. You may wish to bring one double and one autoloader. The double may be more likely to function consistently, but the gas operated autoloaders deliver the best protection on recoil and you will find that is all important in this high volume shooting environment. You may bring 12, 20 or 28 gauge shotguns. 28 gauge shells are $15 per box. We are sometimes able to supply .410 shells, we will need to check availability on quality shells. Guns need to be in top condition and you will want to travel with any spare parts you have on hand for minor repairs. Keep in mind that in excess of a 1000 rounds per day is very normal.
How difficult is it to get guns through customs?
To complete the registration on our end, you will need to send us your gun and personal information as early as possible, minimum 45 days prior to arrival. There is a $100 fee per gun. These fees are subject to change without notice, we do our best to stay on top of all the fees so that you are not surprised. The gun information you provide must be accurate as it will be carefully checked by the authorities upon your international arrival. during our busier months the wait time at the airport upon entry can take up to one (1) hour in Cordoba. There is a new regulation for passengers arriving in Buenos Aires that requires all shotguns be checked against the gun registration with the airport police. This will add 30 minutes to your time at the international airport. We recommend allowing us to provide a transfer agent. Their job is to facilitate the process at all checkpoints in Argentina.
What about chokes?
In our shooting areas the range of shots will be quite assorted. Wind and weather will also affect the shot selection. While choke choices are a personal preference an improved cylinder or improved modified would be the most effective for most situations and a modified for those that like the high bird shot.
Can I bring my own shells?
You are NOT allowed to bring shotgun shells into Argentina, however, if you are doing a combined big game and wing shooting trip with us you can bring your preferred ammo for the big game. Under no circumstances can you bring in shotgun shells. Argentine RENAR authorities will confiscate your shells and you will enjoy their company for most of your first day.
What about the hunting license?
You will have your hunting license upon arrival, it is part of most of our wing shooting packages. You are not required to sign it.
How do I travel with my gun on the airplane?
Current airline policy requires that firearms be carried in a lockable hard sided gun case. Guns may not be broken down and carried in duffels.
Last minute travel tips:
1. If your flight is cancelled or delayed please make every effort to let us know. You may email us at
bschonberger@argosglobal.com . We track your flights but sometimes you have more current information than the airline tracker.
2. Please be sure to check your bags through to Cordoba if possible. If you are coming into Buenos Aires or Santiago del Estero you may change airports and must recheck bags. We will assist with this. I you do change airports please try to allow three (3) hours between your international arrival and domestic departure. The trip between locations is 30 to 40 minutes. If you are clearing guns you will need more time. You will need to collect you baggage and clear customs and immigrations even if you are making a connecting flight at the international airport as a rule.
3. There is an entry fee of $131 that is payable at the Buenos Aires airport with cash or credit card. It is a reciprocal fee that is the same amount in the USA for Argentines to enter the country. It is good for 10 years. The Cordoba airport has not yet implemented this fee if this is your international landing point.
Planning your trip - Considering the Weather
Seasonal weather patterns are most similar to the southern part of the United States without quite as much humidity. Our seasons fall opposite of the United States.
Summertime in Cordoba and Santiago del Estero can begin as early as late November and last into early March. During the day the temperatures will reach the 80's and in the dead of summer we will see 90 degree weather. Good thing we have a nice cool pool to take a plunge in at the end of a great hunting day! The long daylight hours offer 8 to 10 hours of hunting in one day and this is very inviting to our high volume hunters. We can get rain during this time of the year but it will normally fall in the evenings.
Fall finds great temperatures but can still bring rain. Consider March, April and May for more temperate days and the beginning of our Duck and Perdiz season in May.
June, July and August brings our fine arid winter weather and crisp, cool days. The daytime temperatures can reach into the upper 60's and lower 70's but the nights will fall off to the low 40's and we enjoy a roaring fire in the great rooms at the lodges.
Spring rolls in with great daily temps hovering in the 70's and 80's and the nights still cool enough for a fire on most days. Ideal hunting days can be had September to early December.
No matter what time of year you find to suit your travel plans the birds will be flying.
